To Cousin Nia

As I have written before, Genevieve loves to sing 'Night Night Nia' which started when her little cousin Nia was visiting. I kept thinking I need to get it on video and I finally did. The lighting isn't the greatest but I hope her sweet cousin Nia enjoys it all the same.

Nev's At It Again....PLUS a Milestone

Genevieve is always trying on clothes...her clothes, my clothes, her daddy's clothes, her siblings clothes, etc. If it is in her reach, she will likely try it on. Here are some cute shots of her trying on my clothes the other day and then hamming it up for the camera...

As for the milestone, Nev really started jumping (more than a millimeter) today and she is so proud! The only trouble is she likes to do it while standing on the coffee table like she did the first time she jumped for all of us and we all clapped! It's making me very nervous!

Crater Lake

On Saturday, a rare one with nothing scheduled, we wanted to spend the day as a family and decided to take a drive to Crater Lake. Our kids had never been there and it had been 20+ years since Chad and I had been to Crater Lake. It was cold (37 degrees at the lowest!) and cloudy and actually snowed a little bit while we were there but we still had fun exploring the area (mostly from the car) and checking out the lodge. I read stories to the kids in the car about the area and about Oregon from a book we bought in the lodge. It was fun to just visit and spend time together.

The water is so blue and we learned it is the deepest lake in the whole United States and the cleanest water in the world!

The Lodge is so pretty and cozy. We want to stay overnight someday!

I think the kids would tell you the best part of the day was stopping at Rice Hill on the drive home and getting yummy ice cream! They were so good to each other all day. Gabrielle did so awesome entertaining Genevieve in the car and we could hear Will and Cade giggling together in the back much of the drive.

Cade Goes Paintballing....

....And LOVES it! We never fit a friend party in this (busy) summer for Cade's birthday and, he must be growing up, because he didn't give us a bad time about it. But he did ask that we let him go paintballing with a couple of his buddies sometime before the summer is over. So yesterday, Cade, Liam, Edgar and Pascal spent the afternoon at the Paintball Palace and had a BLAST!!

Here they are getting instructions before they start...

And here they are ready for battle...

And, finally, tired out after nearly three hours of paintballing (though they said they could have played much longer). Edgar got a welt on his forearm, Cade had a bruise on his thigh and a bump on his head. Liam and Pascal seemed to get away relatively unscathed...

Gabrielle and Athena's Creation!

Last night Gabrielle and Athena made a cake by themselves for the first time. Here is the final creation...

It started with a detailed decorating plan...

And ended with two very happy girls...

A Little Nev Photo Shoot

I took my camera out today on a walk with Genevieve and took a few shots. She has not been interested in looking at the camera at all lately but I still managed to get some cute ones of her...

Nev picked out this outfit today and I thought it was so cute :)

Genevieve is 20 Months!

Genevieve turned 20 months last week. Time is cruising by so fast! She will be two before we know it. Here's what our little Nev-Nev is up to these days...

Talk, talk, talk...Genevieve's vocabulary has exploded over the past month. She repeats many words we say and even puts 2 and 3 words together sometimes. I would guess that she relatively clearly says more than 50 words now; some are easier to understand than others. This morning we were looking for her shoes and she said "shoes, where are you?".

Singing...I sing to Genevieve a lot. Mostly I sing silly made up songs about how we love Genevieve. So, I shouldn't be surprised that Genevieve loves to sing "night night Nia night night shh shh" as she puts one index finger over her mouth and the other hand against her ear in a sleeping motion. It is so sweet! The other night Nev came into bed with us at about 4:00 am and she was wide awake for some reason and starting singing that song! I had to focus hard to pretend I was asleep and not encourage her with a smile so she would go back to sleep!

Dancing...Nev still loves to dance and will start dancing whenever she hears a song she likes! She continues to enjoy the Wiggles and imitates their clapping and dancing as she watches.

Active, fearless and independent...Genevieve is very active, she is not afraid of much (except taking a bath of all things!) and is usually very independent. She will walk far away from me and explore where ever we are. These are all great traits but can be scary sometimes. She loves to jump (she can jump about 1 millimeter at this point :) but the scary part is she recently tried jumping off a high bench after watching her siblings do it which resulted in a face-plant and some scrapes! She also will run and climb on any playground equipment without fear; this puts fear in me, however! Nev is also getting quite good at dribbling a soccer ball quite a long distance!

A people person...Genevieve has never met a stranger and often walks up to strangers at games or at church and will start interacting with them and has been known to start riffling through a stranger's purse from time to time! She especially loves kids and will quickly become part of any group of kids she is around.

A baby-lover...Genevieve loves babies and will point to a baby and say "baaaby baaaby" and walk over to them and look very curiously at them. She is good about not touching or grabbing at the babies she sees (unless the baby is her cousin Antonia)!

A fashionista...Genevieve continues to love shoes and has been known to convince other little girls to take off their shoes so that she can try them on herself! She also loves to go through her clothes and try on difference pants and shirts. She struggles to get them on but sometimes is able to get a pair of pants on (usually backwards) or a shirt over her head. The shoes, however, she can get on herself very easily!

Genevieve adores her siblings....And she cries when I drop them off somewhere. It will be very tough for her when they start going to school most days. She will often yell out their names when we come in the house and though she is not very interested in watching TV she will sometimes snuggle with her siblings and watch what they are watching. I think she just likes being part of the gang. She loves to follow them around outside and just be with any of them. Luckily her siblings adore her as well!

Sleeping...Genevieve sleeps about 10-11 hours straight through most nights. As the summer has moved along her bedtime has gotten later and later; right now it is usually 9:30 pm when she goes to bed and she usually gets up around 8:00 am. Nev take one approximately two hour nap a day beginning around 1:00 pm.

Food...Genevieve continues to be a good eater. She is a protein lover and not much of a carb girl (unlike her mom)! She loves yogurt which she loves to feed herself, sausages (chicken apple from Costco is a favorite), chicken and beef, asparagus, eggs, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken nuggets, broccoli, grapes, strawberries, dried mango, almonds and cashews and much more!

Animal lover...Genevieve really enjoys the cows, dog, kittens and she loved seeing all the animals at the county fair.

Opinions abound! Genevieve definitely knows what she wants and is not afraid to let us know! She will cry and get frustrated if she doesn't get something she really wants but with a little humor or a fun alternative we usually (though definitely not always!) can distract her still.

Genevieve is just so much fun and has such a fun, happy personality! We Love You, Sweet Genevieve!!

More Tournament Photos

We are lucky that one of Cade's teammate's dad is an avid photographer and he often shares his photos with us. Here are some of his shots from the tournament this past weekend.

Mt. Hood Challenge Tournament

I'm a little sad that Summer 2010 soccer tournament season is over! Cade and Gabrielle played in five tournaments each this summer and Willem played in one tournament for a total of six weekends out of town enjoying our kids play.

Cade and Elle both played in the Mt Hood Challenge in the Portland area this weekend. It was a fun and actually pretty relaxing weekend (after my team manager/player eligibility drama was favorably settled!) spent with friends and family at Embassy Suites and on the soccer fields. My Dad and Marcus came for several games and David and James both had kids playing.

Cade's team (the Bocas - playing in the top U13 division) gave us some great games including a fantastic one vs. OSA which went to penalty kicks. In regulation of that game, Cade scored and had two assists. The game ended in a 5-5 tie and his team won in PK's (Cade made his PK)! It was so much fun to see his team battle back from a 2-5 deficit! The Bocas made it to the consolation final losing to a Boise area team in overtime (in the last 90 seconds) 0-1 in another great game. Aside from those games, the Bocas lost 1-3 to WUSC (the State Cup Champs) and 0-1 to Hood River and beat Thelo 1-0. Cade played great and got a lot of playing time, all at forward. He had a blast though he really wanted to win that last game!

Cade worked so hard all weekend

Gabrielle's team played in the top U11 division and went 3-2 for the weekend taking 3rd place. The games they won, they won convincingly 3-0, 6-1 and 5-0 vs. Mollala, Newberg and Thelo. They met a tough Vancouver Timbers team losing 3-0 and lost to Oregon Rush 5-2 in the semi-final though the 8:00 am start turned out to be tough for our girls as they got behind 3-0 early and then finally woke up and played them straight-up the rest of the game. All great lessons learned! Her team was missing a couple of their top girls and I look forward to watching them play these teams in coming years with our full squad! Elle had a great time with her friends and played well, mostly at forward and outside defense. She got the first goal of the tournament for her team which was fun as well!

It was gorgeous in Canby with the mountain in the background. Here are Athena and Elle waiting to be subbed in.

Another great shot of the setting. Love the corn fields!

And, finally, a picture of our favorite fan!
