Fashion Show

Gabrielle and her very good friend, Kyndsi, grabbed my camera the other day and took pictures of their 'fashion show'. I love it when my kids pick up the camera and take pictures and I had so much fun perusing through the 100+ pictures they took of each other trying on (mostly my) clothes and posing for the camera. They even had a fan going for the blowing hair effect. Here are a few of my favorites. Aren't they beautiful!

This next one totally cracked me up. It's obviously very grainy but I had to include it. The girls were very sweet to let Genevieve tag along as they played and apparently Nev got dressed in a (way to small) swimsuit with her diaper hanging out and posed for the camera...

Same Time, Very Different Places

This past weekend, Chad took our boys camping and I took our girls to Elle's soccer tournament in Portland. When we shared our iphone pictures, I noticed these pictures were taken within minutes of each other. Kind-of fun!

A few things about the weekend...1) the boys absolutely loved camping which included lots of junk food, stories from dad, frog catching, gun shooting, hiking and camp fires; 2) us girls had a blast together playing/watching soccer, relaxing with friends and doing some school shopping; and 3) my bed at Embassy Suites was much more comfortable than Chad's bed in the back seat of our Ford Excursion (Cade, Will and Jace took up all the space in the tent)!

Elle, Maddie and Kyndsi in the elevator of Embassy Suites. These gals guested with the Athletica White team this weekend at the Mt. Hood Challenge making it to the quarterfinals and ultimately finishing 7th out of 16 teams in the Silver Division. They lost another tough game in PK's (happily Elle did make her PK but they lost the shootout 2-1).

I Heart the Fair!

If you know me pretty well, you know that my favorite day of the summer when I was a kid was the day I got to spend at the fair with my brother, David. David and I would save up and meticulously plan all summer for our day at the fair. Maybe that's why when my kids and their cousins went to the fair this year, it was my brothers, David and James, and me that took 10 of our kids while our spouses, for one reason or another, didn't make it there! David, James and I took our kids Wednesday evening after practices for four hours of fun, food and rides. Cade wanted to go on wild ride after wild ride (just like when I was a kid), Willem wanted to join him and did for a few wild rides but was a little nervous about the really wild ones (he chickened out on the Zipper the first time they were in line but the second time, he did it and loved it). Gabrielle liked the wild rides but was bummed that she gets stomach aches when she rides them so she only went on a few. They all, of-course, loved the food (elephant ears and corn dogs were favorites) and the games too!

Genevieve had to wait until Thursday to go on rides. I took her with Grandma (Will and Cade came along as well) for three hours so we would have time to look at the animals and ride the kiddy rides. She was less interested in the animals than I thought but very interested in the rides! She loved them and wanted more and more of them though was content with the ones that didn't move too fast. It was great spending that time with her and being able to take our time. I will have to say that after two days in a row at the fair, I was pretty beat and happy to wait another year to go again!

Some of the cousins!

Wow, that's pretty crazy when I look at and realize we have been home less than two full weekends so far this summer though I wish we could do it all over again! I really do love it even though it is so packed full. The point of this blog post is to catch up on pictures and results of the many soccer tournaments the kids did this summer. I have just been too busy (catching-up on work, kids practices, my workouts, the house, and just being with the kids are their stuff) when I get back from out of town each weekend to write up a post on the tournament the previous weekend.

So, here's my quick summary plus pictures if I have them of each tournament I haven't blogged about yet this summer. The kids love that I document this and enjoy looking back at the tournaments from each summer.

United Cup:
Gabrielle's Athletcia Blue team played in the top/premier division in this tournament (missing Avalon and Emily), losing the first game 0-2 to FC Portland with half our team showing up at or after game time because of horrible traffic. They then won their next two games vs. Eastside and Westside on Saturday. Sunday morning, they tied THUSC 0-0 but it wasn't enough to put them in the final. FC Portland ended up beating THUSC 2-1 in the final.

Seattle Regional:
Cade's Boca Jr. Blue team played in the top/premier division of this regional tournament (without their two starting central defenders), losing a tough one the Crossfire B 6-2. They then lost 5-2 to Willamette United Arsenal which added several new ODP players since we played them last (they ended up winning the tournament - this was the same team Cade's team beat 5-0 in the state cup semi-final). In the team's final game, they beat Emerald City 3-0. It was a disappointing result overall for the boys but they continue to learn and Cade continues to develop and improve. Pictures from our weekend in Seattle...

Nev loves to join in on the after-game jog

Always gotta get some sideline shots of Nev!

Beaverton Cup:
Gabrielle guested with the Athletica White team along with Athena and Maddie for the Beaverton Cup. The team played in the silver division tying a Vancouver team 1-1 then winning 4-1 and 5-0 in pool play which advanced them to the semi-final game. The team ended up losing a very close match against an Alaska team in the semi-final. The game ended 1-1 in regulation so it went into PK's. Elle made her PK but it wasn't enough for her team to win. Elle had a fun time in this tourney getting a ton of playing time and being a leader on the team. She played central defense and outside defense. Here are a few pictures from the Beaverton Cup...

Nike Oswego Cup:
This is always a favorite on the tournament circuit for the kids. Cade and Willem were disappointed their teams did not play in this tourney. Elle's Athletica Blue team played in the top/premier division again losing their first game in a tight one 0-1 vs. THUSC (aka the 'meanie greenies'). In the next two games they beat Lake Oswego 2-0 and Southside 3-1. This got them into the semi-finals vs. WUSC (Willamette United) Sunday morning, a team they usually beat. Unfortunately we were missing two good forwards (Jordan and Isabella plus Aja was not yet on our roster) and the team found it difficult to score goals! The game ended up a 1-1 tie though Athletica had a more shots and possession (but that's soccer for you!). It went to PK's...once again, Elle made her PK but they team ended up losing 3-4 in PK's so they did not advance to the final. Lake Oswego ended up winning the tourney.

We stayed at Embassy Suites again for this tournament and the place was swarming with soccer players from lots of teams including Elle's team and cousin Pascal's team. It was a little scary watching the interaction between all the boys and girls. We noticed a change in the way the boys saw the girls and visa versa (though less so from the girls). It was also clear that the boys were on the lookout for girls from other teams and there was a lot of interaction going on in the hallways of the hotel! Eeek, can they really be old enough for this to start?!

You Know You are a CrossFit Geek...

...When you and most of your class show up with long socks on rope climbing day (to avoid rope burn, which is also why I wore the tights)...

Troy, Me, Beau, Brandy, Holly

...And when you and your workout mates start organizing matching shirt days...

Me, Sam, Lindsey, Cheryl and Daren

On the blog of the CrossFit where I am a member, the owner posts daily pictures along with the daily workout. These pictures are from the Eugene Crossfit blog (www.eugenecrossfit.com) and I thought they'd be fun to look back on.
