3v3 Tournament
The 3rd weekend in May, Willem and Gabrielle got to have some fun with their friends at the 3v3 tournament put on by our club, EMFC. Willem's team (Abe, James, Devin and Willem) won their pool play games easily (10-0 sort of scores) and met their EMFC teammates in the semi-final. It was an even match with our boys nearly losing it (mentrally, that is!) when they would get behind :). But they fought back to tie it up in regulation. It was on to overtime and 'golden goal' where both teams traded opportunities. Finally, with about 20 seconds left in overtime the other EMFC team scored...leaving Willem and his teammates devastated! Yes, see the last picture of Willem below, he was devastated that he wouldn't repeat as 3v3 champs :). The other EMFC team ended up winning the final in pretty easy fashion. Willem still had a great day, scoring lots of goals and working hard. He and his teammates were lots of fun to watch and to coach :)

Gabrielle's team of Kyndsi, Avalon, Maddie, Athena and Elle lost their first couple games (both close games they felt they should've won vs. Athletica White and Lake Oswego Dynasty). They came back winning their third pool play game (vs. Sol) and their consolation match. It was a fun day overall even if Elle's team didn't do as well as they hoped.

Memorial Day Tournament
Memorial Day weekend, Willem's U10 team (EMFC Valencia) played their last games together as U10's at the Kidsports Memorial day Tournament in Springfield. The team was a collection of the two U10 teams. They played really well in pool play winning all three games pretty handily vs. WACF Woodburn (8-2), The Olympians (17-1 ouch) and Umpqua Strikers (Roseburg) (7-0). Needless to say, Willem was having a blast! In the championship game vs the Woodburn team, Willem's team came out without their same fire while Woodburn came out very strong. EMFC Valencia ended up losing 6-3 and Willem was very bummed (didn't want to talk about it :) but we thought the team and Willem had a great weekend overall!
Cade's State ODP Season
Cade spent the 3v3 weekend and Memorial Day weekend (as well as 3 other weekends in May/June) with the Oregon '99 ODP team. It was an up and down ODP season for Cade. He played some really good weekends of training but then his injuries to his back and knees caused him to sit out too many sessions as well. He was on the 'A' team for the Memorial Day Friendship Cup tournament. But the next weekend, Cade was once again only able to train about half of the training sessions. Mostly as a result of his injuries, Cade did not make the group of 18 selected for Regional Camp. One of the ODP coaches told Chad that they did not want to give a spot to an injured player as the camp is a rigorous 5 days. Cade was pretty upset about it and very frustrated that he's been playing with injuries for the past year. We all look forward to him being healthy and having another shot at Regional Camp next June.
On a related note, Cade has grown a full inch in the past two months (might be why his knees keep hurting) and over 2 inches in the past 6 months. He is now 5 ft 3.5 in! We are proud of him working through his injuries and putting so much of himself into his passion including icing his back and knees most nights. We know he wants to play feeling 100% SO SO badly. Soon, son, soon!!
