Last Saturday marked the midpoint of the fall Oregon Premier League season. Both Cade and Gabrielle's teams are in the top division of the top league in the state, so each weekend brings two tough games for each team against teams in Portland, Vancouver or Bend. There are eight teams in each division and, at this midway point, every team has played every team once.
Gabrielle's U12 Athletica team is currently in 1st place! In our club's 5 year history there has not been a team that has won the fall league premier division so this is pretty exciting for the girls and the club. Their record is 5-1-1 and they are one point ahead of 2nd place. The four top teams (EMFC, FC Portland, FC Salmon Creek and THUSC) are all very close. Gabrielle has worked very hard over the past several months since getting a new coach and being injured much of last year and has earned herself a starting spot at outside defender. She loves that position and we love watching her and this great group of girls!
Cade's U14 Boca Jr. team started the season off with a two-loss weekend but since then has battled back and played well earning themselves a 4th place tie in the league at the mid-point with a record of 3-3-1. The competition continues to get tougher as the Portland clubs consolidate but the Boca Jrs have shown they can play with the best, losing a heart breaker 2-3 vs. one of the teams tied for 1st and, in the first game of the second half of the season (this past Sunday), they tied the other top team. They hope they can keep their momentum going and earn a 3rd place finish in the league which would be enough to qualify them for the NW Champions League again for next year. Cade is playing forward and, even though so many of the boys tower over him having already had their big growth spurt (Cade is waiting not so patiently for his!), he has scored 3 goals and is starting most games (getting about 35 minutes playing time each game).
Willem is playing in the EMFC U10 Academy. His Valencia team is playing in the Silver division of the U11 Kidsports league. Will is having a lot of fun, playing goalie half the game and usually forward or center mid the other half. His team is 1-1-1 with lots of close, exciting games. Willem has scored several goals and is always very tough and a hard worker out on the field. He is faster than most of the boys 2-3 grades older than him and definitely the goalie most willing to sacrifice his body to stop a goal. He is just a lot of fun to watch!
I really love watching all three of our kids play and am so proud of how hard they work, how they love playing and are good teammates. Now if only I could clone myself so I would never miss a game and if I could get frequent driving miles, we'd be set!
