Summer Hikes

Rarely did a week go by this summer without a hike or walk amongst our corn fields, up Mt. Pisgah or by the river. Here are a few pictures from our summer hikes and walks. Makes me miss summer even more on this rainy day today!

A picture from before when the corn was just coming up

Love love love my summer walks with Chad :)

Genevieve loves us swinging her on our walks!

Genevieve often runs all the way to the lagoon, anxious to throw rocks in the creek along the way

Late summer with the tall corn

Sometimes we stop in the cottonseed for some fun!

A solo run in the fields for me

Beautiful Mt. Pisgah!

Gotta get a couple of these a year :)

On this day, Nev hikes all the way up Mt Pisgah without us carrying her at all and her reward was a dip in the river afterwards

Oregon CrossFit Summer Games

August 24th and 25th I competed in the Oregon CrossFit Games with Lindsey in the female team competition along with 36 other teams. Our goal was to finish in the top 13 and we were super excited to finish Day One in 7th place with a 7th place finish in the burpee, double-under, sprint workout, 16th place in the max front squat and jerk workout (with PR's for me of 175# and 155#!), 4th in the Fran workout and 11th in the max snatch/OHS workout. Day 2 brought a workout with 100 toes to bar, 80 95# cleans, a run, 40 95# shoulder to overhead and another run. We placed 9th in that event bringing us to 8th overall which qualified us for the 10 team final Sunday afternoon. This is where the real craziness began as you can read in my Facebook post:

"First time for everything and today it was a final in a downpour, thunder and lightening...and 225# deadlifts (super heavy for me)! We managed to get through 32 of the heavy deadlifts and (almost) three 400m runs before the time cap which was enough for 10th place (out of 10!). The remaining finals were cancelled due to the lightening and rain! Still an awesome weekend and an 8th overall finish. Thanks to my awesome teammate, Lindsey, and fantastic coach, Daren, and all the ECF supporters!!!"

It was such a fun weekend, hanging out with Lindsey, Daren, Hillary and others from Eugene CrossFit as well as Kendall and her friends at CrossFit Intensify. Kendall and Caitlin won the female team competition, winning all but one event! Looking forward to competing again next year but hoping for two full days of sunshine :)

With Coach Daren!

Rain and cooler weather came on fast Sunday afternoon!

A couple pictures from our gym/box at home were we prepared for the weekend. That's my 'sweat angel' on the left :)
While I was competing, Chad took the boys camping and hunting. Here are a few pictures of their trip including a couple of the boys showing how proud they were of me doing well in the competition :)......

No, Willem did not sleep on the cooler, he was just not into having his picture taken!

First Day of School

School started again last week with all our kids at one school for one last year! Genevieve is in Pre-K with Mrs. Pike and Ms Trysten (11:00-3:00 Monday through Thursday), Willem is in 4th grade with Mrs. McCormick, Gabrielle is in 7th grade with Mr Arhens as her homeroom teacher and Cade is in 8th grade with Mr. Schultz as his homeroom (Cade and Elle also have Mrs. G, Mrs. Smith and Mr. Harbert).

Genevieve was the only one of our kids that was really excited for school to start. She could not wait to see her friends and play with them. Willem and Gabrielle were their typical selves with regard to school, not excited about it starting and not wanting summer to end but there was very little complaining or anxiety about it starting up again. Cade was definitely dreading the start of school the most. He is really DONE with St. Paul and middle school and just wants to be with the older kids in high school. I'm looking forward to next year for him where he actually might not totally dread the end of summer for once! All the kids reported having a pretty good first day though Cade did say if felt like it was the middle of the year already and it'll be a long nine months :)

I had to add this picture from last week when Nev was dancing and playing dress-up. She is definitely always entertaining us!
