Every year summer seems to fly by more quickly than the
last. I am never ready for school to start up again. I have always loved summer. I love that there’s not much of a schedule, our kids are happy,
there’s no homework, no strict bedtime, the sun is shining, there are lots of
soccer tournaments and the days are long. I could go on and on. So, I was a
little sad that school started today. It seems to have rubbed off on our kids as bit
as they were not too excited for school to start either!
Gabrielle was the only
one who was a little excited to go back because she was starting middle school
and was excited for lockers, electives and changing classes during the day. She
reported that she had a pretty good day.
Willem was not ready to say good-bye
to summer but, in typical Willem fashion, he didn’t complain much. He said
school was really, really long today and a little boring.
Cade tried to have a
good attitude about back-to-school and didn’t stress much about it before hand
(an improvement from years’ past) but came back with reports that it was SOOO
BORING. I just hope he makes it through his last two years at St. Paul as he is
ready for high school already!
Genevieve was hot and cold about starting
school; sometimes she said she didn’t want to go and then other times
(after a little convincing from her siblings or me), she was excited about school
because of new friends, recess and playtime. I am excited to report that she
did great today and had a lot of fun. She was timid when we first went to the
gym for drop-off as it was loud and pretty intimidating. She cried for about 30
seconds when I had to leave her with her class but her teacher did a great job
distracting her and then she was fine. I stood near-by her for the morning
assembly but slowly inched away until it was time for her class to walk to
their classroom. We blew kisses to one another and she was off. Phew! I was
very excited to pick her up three hours later. It was so great to see her
smiling face, have her run to me to hug me and tell me about her day. She told
me she had fun and met one friend though she can’t remember her name :)

So many memories all in one day! I'm excited for Elle's locker too... those are awesome! Also just love the pictures of Nev's first day... with her daddy, with her backpack. :) Can't wait to hear more about it tonight!
Always a fun post to look forward to :-)
