Ficek Sports Update with Recent Mile Times

Here's the latest Ficek sports news (I wanted to record this so our kids and we can look back....only sports fanatics or close family will probably be interested :):

Gabrielle (4th grade) ran the mile in school today in 7:14 minutes. She was nervous this morning and wanted to do well and was excited with her time! She was first out of the girls in her class and 3rd overall.

Willem (1st grade) also ran the mile in school in 7:15 minutes. He beat his closest classmate by a full minute but was bummed he was beat by his sister! We looked up Cade's mile time at this age (Cade was actually a couple months older) and it was 7:12; I was surprised how close they are!

Cade's (5th grade) knee has been bothering him so he didn't run the mile (maybe in a couple weeks) but he did run it in the fall in about 5:45 minutes.

Gabrielle is out of her cast this week and in a splint! She will finally play in the last two OPL spring league soccer games coming up this weekend and next; she played in the first two games and then missed four but has been practicing throughout. Her team, U11 Athletica, is in first place (out of 12 teams) in the top U11 division in the Oregon Premier League (OPL) with a 4-0-2 record. They have played the other four toughest teams (THUSC, FCSC, FC Portland and United SA) already getting 2 wins and two ties against them.

Cade's soccer team, U13 Boca Jrs, finished 6th out of 8 teams in the OPL's top U13 division with a 2-5-1 record and lots of close games (i.e. one goal loses!). But they are now 2-0 in pool play of the State Cup tournament which is the state championship and playing some great soccer. They beat ESUFC (one of the top 2 or 3 teams at this age in Oregon) 3-2 last weekend in a very exciting game. They have one more pool game this weekend but regardless of how it turns out, they will win their group of 4 and advance to the state quarterfinals which take place next Saturday and, hopefully, the semifinals the next day.

Willem recently started his Kidsports league with his U10 Rovers team. Willem is the youngest of the 30 boys playing in the U10 EMFC academy and was excited to be playing with the 2nd team (out of three teams). They are playing in the U11 silver division (there is also gold and bronze) which is mostly teams of 4th and 5th graders. It's pretty fun watching our little (okay, not so little) first grader out there battling with the bigger boys. Willem holds his own though he's been getting a little frustrated when his team gets behind or is scored on. We just remember how far his big brother has come in this area and know Willem will mature as well. His team has one win and one lose so far.

Genevieve loves to imitate everything her brothers, sister, mom and dad do. She loves to dance, jump and run!!

So fun to record this! That's pretty cool how close Cade and Will are at the same age in their mile times. Nice that Elle beat Will this year... but will it be the last time!? He's going to grow a lot in the next year. Oh, and I like the last tidbit about Nev-Nev :)
